What Is “Learning Is A Talent”?

Talent. When you think of that word, you probably picture musicians, artists, athletes, or chess players. Yes, all those people have talent, but there is something else they also have - a personal drive and the pursuit of success. Within that drive and pursuit comes lots of practice. They’ve developed their talents through practice and learning to be their best. That’s the premise of Sullivan Talent Solutions’ core philosophy: Learning Is A Talent.

What we believe is that everyone has the potential to learn based on their personal motivations, desires, and commitment. I’ve seen students who thought they could never understand math concepts become the people teaching other students how to do that math. In terms of Bloom’s Taxonomy, teaching others falls into the most advanced level of learning because you create a method to help someone understand a concept. Those students learned the math concepts and developed a hidden talent.

Sometimes the easiest way to explain something is to explain what it’s not. In math, we call that a counterexample. So, here are some things we’re not saying:

  • We are not saying that everyone can learn to be a rocket scientist.

  • We are not saying that if you choose to learn something new, you will become a guru in that new thing.

  • We are also not saying that everyone should try to learn everything.

What are we saying? Learning Is A Talent is a different approach to learning new or challenging things. When you embrace the mindset that you can learn to learn, you open doors to new and undiscovered talents. With dedication and hard work, you can do things you never thought you could. What we are saying is:

  • You can learn new things, no matter how old you are.

  • You can discover new interests and explore them to the extent you desire.

  • You can find a guide who will help you achieve things you dream of doing.

So, why not decide to learn something new today? No matter what it is, if you set your mind to it, you can discover that Learning Is A Talent.
